Everytime I put a game into my PS2, I push the button that shows the memory card and all that. After waiting a few minutes, it says DISC READ ERROR and it says that with all my games. I take my games to my brothers place (because I'm so cool) and they work fine on his PS2. I was playing FF7 too recently, and when I put it in the PS2 the same thing comes up, but if I put it in my ancient PS1 which I recently dug up, it works perfectly. What's wrong with my ps2 =(?

Your PS2's drive is probably broken. DRE's are a common problem with PS2's.

Does that mean I need to get a new one?

Maybe you do have to get a new one.

Get a new Ps2. It's a drive problem or your thing wore out. Thats the problem with sytems using laser drives. Which is what all the new systems will use. This is one reason why cartridge systems last so long. No lasers to wear out. Im on my 2nd ps2, and still my first n64 and 2nd SNES.

Get a new one, or you can get it fixed. or warranty it. But if you get it fixed that will void anychance of you getting anything from Sony. THere are sites online where you can get it fixed for like 30.00 USD. Also, if your going to get it fixed, you mught as well as put a modchip or something in there as well. Just a thought, since it's open already.

I'd hate to tell you to buy a new PS2 and inflate Sony's sales numbers, but that is a solution. If you're planning on getting a PS3, I suggest just waiting for that to come out. Or buy a used PS2 or get it repaired.
