How do you get mp3 files from cd's?

Like how do you get the music files off cd's so i can play it in itunes/winamp at a later time without using the cd?
lKVNiiKINKYl
After you pop in the CD, open the CD in windows media player and then click on the RIP tab at the top and then just wait till it rips. It should go to your documents under "my music".
ParanoidAndroid
You can play the cd in your computer and rip the songs on window's media player. Then you can save it in your pc from then on...
evanbunnell
Make sure you rip them as .mp3 and not .wma. (or whatever it is.) While .wmv have a higher bit rate, .mp3 are more versatile and you most likely won't even notice a difference in sound quality anyways.

Stick your CD in, open I-tunes, and click import.

very simple.

What's so bad about iTunes. I throb.gif iTunes.
evanbunnell
Apple / Mac makes me sad is all. iPod, iTunes, iPorn... it's all weird.

EDIT: <--- PC Fanboy.
Eryi
I doubt Apple has come up with an iPorn. =/
evanbunnell
That would be the joke, Ted.

You all are so observant here on CB. If only there were some sense of humor. wink.gif
Eryi
It was not funny and that's not really a good way of hating iTunes.
Save things for the Humor section.
evanbunnell
Or lighten your tight ass up and take a f**king joke. More proof that you don't have a sense of humor. Even if you didn't think it was funny, attacking the post wasn't needed.
jennyjenny
Um, enough of the spam and member bashing?
evanbunnell
Will do.

Did you figure out what you needed to do to rip the music?

iTunes is a shitty program. There are alot of better programs you can use. Plus, it takes up window space and it's a waste of ram. Theres also a "iPodService.exe" that runs in the backround. So even more ram.

Use XMMS.

PC fan? Hah, I haven't heard someone saying "pc/windows pride" ever.

Anyways, there are alot of programs to do this too.

Windows media player
iTunes
MusicMatch Jukebox
Winamp
I think there are some open source ones that will rip them into OGG forms too.
Theres also sony programs I think. SonicStage and all that, into all regular formats and Atrac3 too.

No, but the one made by red chair software can. Ooohhhhh. No I'm just playing. But really, it can. The one made by red chair. iPodium Explorer or something. I'd rather use that and another program then use iTunes.

More of an "Anti-Mac Boy".
Just_Dream
Have you ever used Nero 5 or 6? I usually use that and it does take a while, but not that long since it's a pretty fast program. I use that to convert all the music I rip from cds. Very convenient. I didn't even know iTunes converted to mp3. I thought it only converted AAC. mellow.gif

Wow I learn something new everyday.
Eryi
I could consider RealPlayer.

Yes, thanks for asking.

I used good ol' Windows Media Player.

Before I created this thread, I used iTunes but I didn't know how to convert it to .mp3 files. Too confusing for me, haha.

It's just a setting in the Preferences.
steezahh
pop it in your computer open it up on my computer.. viola! the mp3 files... then i dunno how to get them on itunes but on windows media you would just 'open' the song you want then right click on you want and then press copy to cd/device. !!
xTINAA
In iTunes change the converter to MP3 instead of the standard one it comes with, then insert a CD. In iTunes click on IMPORT and then it will import all the songs from your CD into MP3 format onto iTunes.

(To change the converter to MP3: Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Importing>Import using MP3 Encoder)
