at first i thought it was all one person, and that they just had a very very very strange looking nose and wide apart eyes.

Yeah for most people it takes awhile for them to see everything in the picture. And with the feather its not symbolizin the feather. There is water covering the feather that symbolizes the tear from the 2 girls in the picture.
