Laptop. Its really worth it. With an ipod you can just listen and "watch videos" which you can get with a laptop. So just get the laptop it can do way more.

It depends on the laptop, if its a Dell, go with the iPod, it will last longer. If not, I would go with the laptop. BTW // Acer makes a nice $600-700 widescreen latptop.

I have the same problem, a 60 gig iPod Video or a new computer (desktop)......

I'd go with the laptop. It is more functional. If this is a gift, definitely go for the laptop, because why not get the more expensive of the two items as a gift?

Okay look.. don't even WASTE your money on a video ipod. Doesn't look that great. Get a laptop. Better yet, go get a G4 powerbook, if you really want something that's apple. Looks really nice. :]

laptop > iPod <-- when it coems to costs, since laptops cost more. Also, don't get a video ipod. It's huge. Why are you going to watch shows or movies on such a tiny screen? I don't see the point in that.. Sure it's portable but.. Pssh.. Go get a PSP and watch anime or movies on that. It's more fun. Also, if you're desperate for an ipod, go get a Nano. it's fricken sexy---I should know. ;]

Anyways, get a laptop. There's much more you can do with one, and iPod videos aren't that great. Many of my friends have them, and I still like my non-color iPod mini better. They really don't look that nice, to be honest. Although they have become thinner. (I'd rather get a PSP than an iPod video though.)
