A lot of people laugh when I say I'm a swimmer. They blow off swimming as some whimpy sport- but its harder than you'd think. I practice on 2 different teams- one year round and one during the winter. My total practice time a week is around 10 hours. ohmy.gif
You think you can handle that? rolleyes.gif

Here are some of my favorite sets:
10x100 on 1:00
5x500 (top race time)
10x200 on 1:50 descending 1:30
8x25 no breathe- sprint!!

You do some of these- these are the easy ones! blink.gif

I agree, swimming IS a hard sport. I used to be competitive and everyone else on the team was too. (I swam for the city)
Even during the summers, I woke up at 6AM to swim.

But yeah, my parents made me quit ):

i'm not that competitive but my gf wakes up too early to be school at 5:40 or something to swim and then she swims after school.. in the summer.. she gets lazy and misses Summer league practices but i make her go.

i just do summer league but yeah.. i'm not as fast as a Varsity but i can be a good JV one.

No it isnt easy. I remembered when I first learned to swim and to tell ya the truth..i was horrible. People think swimming is easy because all you do is move your arms, legs, and head but you have to do it all at once and concentrate. It gets really tiring afterwards too.

yeah i don't understand how people can think that swimming is an easy sport. to me it's like one of the hardest ones, but i love swimming though i never tried out for the swim team cause my mom refuse to drive me to school at 530 in the morning for practices

Oh gosh, swimming is certainly not a wimpy sport. It's so tough and rigorous! It's seriously the best kind of exercise. I always feel so good after swimming :)

danielle_x3
i love swimming. it's hard when you first start, but all you need is practice. but yeah, people do say that it's easy, when it really isn't.

i love swimming, just hate the lessons and all.
emazing
I don't judge swimmers like that, but yahp.
I agree, a lot of people don't realize that swimmers go through the tough stuff just like a regular athlete would to acheive [I have a best friend who's a swimmer].

Swimming is so awesome.. I do summer league so I'm not exactly pro (lol) but there is so much work that goes into it, a lot of my friends are swimmers and they're always complaining about waking up at 5 to go to practice. i dont know how anyone could think swimming is hard.
I think swimming and track are tied for my most favorite sport, lol

if you threw me in the middle of the ocean with no floataion equipment, id die. seriously, i would. ermm.gif haha. i can swim, and i can float on my back..but im not a strong swimmer. so im thinking id last maybe 30 minutes and then just give up and drown myself.

Swimming isn't easy at all. I remember how I used to learn swimming when I was a kid. It was terrible. I was forced to learn since my dad doesn't know how to swim and my mom almost drowned in a lake once when she was a kid. But I was born with a heart condition, which is what made it really hard for me to learn. Like I could swim a metre or something, and then I will have to stop and gasp for air. So yea. But my heart problem healed when I was in grade 5, so it got better then.

I stopped taking lessons. I started off with community centre swimming, then I did private club swimming. I love front crawl. Especially when I challenge myslef to breath like ever 8 or more =DI know I'm not the world's greatest swimmer or even a good one >< But yea. I try and I'm not that bad. I hate back crawl. I'm scared of crashing my head against the wall. Like I know it's coming, but sometimes it comes sooner than I think and yea. =P

Turning in water if fun, though =D I mean, more like flipping. My friend, he learned how to turn and kick off the wall. But it was more like turning around in the water. But my way was more like flipping around and kicking off the wall like those in the Olympics.
