I downloaded some .AVI files, and Winamp is supposed to run it but for somereason, it won't.

Anyone know any good player that can play .avi files?

An .avi file is just a wrapper for a variety of formats, but often DivX-encoded files are wrapped as .avi files. You can try getting a free DivX encoder-decoder (codec) here: http://www.divx.com/divx/codec.php. That might work.

Maybe you got the Winamp that doesn't support AVI playback, because they offer a Lite, Standard and Full version.

Winamp 5 PRO only offers more settings about ripping and encoding stuff. If you're trying to view .avi files, you would need to decode it, and you use a codec for that (although I thought that you were given the option to install codecs during the winamp installation, but now I'm not sure).

installing ffdshow should solve your problems.
