Most Linux and Unix window managers have a feature in which one can have multiple desktops and switch between them. I wondered if there is a similar program for Windows that is preferably free. Does anyone know of one?

Don't know of any. But yeah, I love multiple desktops. No clutter in task bar, and you can group similar programs on the same desktop.

You're probably not talking about desktops on multiple monitors, right?

Not sure if this would help you.

No, this is more liked tabbed browsing, except with desktops.

I didn't download it, but from the screenshots, it kinda seems like it.

I did some research, and found that Microsoft offers one.

It's free. I'm using it now. It's not bad.

Ah, question. If I run a program, minimize, and open it in another desktop, am I running the program twice?

edit: Neeeevermind, I see how it works.

^^ Okay, that sounds neat and now I'm thinking of downloading it. How exactly does it work?

It creates a number of virtual desktops, each one with its own taskbar and windows independent of the rest. For example, you can put an email program on desktop #3, a bunch of open Firefox windows for a research project on #2, and then have a clean desktop for normal work on #1.
