protector or destroyer

Well, l just saw a commercial in discovery channel about human, being the protector of all species in this planet called earth. Well, aren't we the one who's destroying this planet , aren't we the one who's killing allot of animals to eat them even we all know that they are endangered, aren't we the one who's creating the global warming and destroying the ozone layer. We pollute everything. The sea, the air and even the food we eat. Most of them have preservatives and chemicals that runs through out body. Everything on earth is polluted nowadays and we cant escape the fact that earth is dying in the hands of human. Reality bites but its true. Do everybody cared about the mother nature? Most of us don't even give a damn. So are we the protector or the destroyer.

just wondering, The movie "WATER WORLD" is not too far from reality. Global warming, melting of ice in the north and south pole, major floods and rising of the ocean floor.

Even if the ice caps were to melt, there would still be some land available. If we destroy the earth and Humanity is doomed to a terrible, gruesome end as a result of our poor capabilities as care-takers then oh well. That's life.

You could always be both. I mean... we do protect the chicken until we eat it.
demolished
We protect to preserve then we kill it.

Well stated. Humans fill both roles in a manner that is commensurate with their wants and needs. It's impossible to be only one or the other. Eating does encapsulate preservation of the self and the death of the plant/animal that serves as the food. We all demonstrate the ability to create, protect and destroy.

I don't think killing animals is a problem, that's the circle of life. What's not the circle of life it cutting down the trees, pollution by fossil fuels, and littering. Now, we are doing good for the Earth though. Also, some things are natural that we do too. We can't help but destroy the Earth to create a natural balance. Eh, whatever.

We are both. You cannot protect something that is not being threated to be destroyed. One can not have good without evil.

We are both and do both. We destroy life in a forest by letting it burn only to have it fertilize and be filled with nutrients again. We may be polluting the earth. In some ways, it can be prevented but others cannot. Where else would all the garbage we throw away be dumped? Not everything is recyclable. It's not that most of us don't give a damn; some of us are so used to a society where you take things for granted and don't appreciate it.

Humans... interesting aren't they? They have the ability to give life as well as the ability to take it away. Curious.

The human race has just developed to be too smart for its own good. (and the good of everything around us)

personally i dont care because unless we soon find a way to live longer these problems will not effect me.

It's the age old question: If God is omnipotent, how can He be benevolent? (somehow, all my responses to debates have found rooting in religion and I'm an agnostic of sorts!)

We are both because there is no other species with such intelligence which is able to preserve the balance our destruction and regeneration (and thus protection) maintains.
ComradeRed
There's a very simple resolution to the God's omnipotence/benevolence question.

Benevolence only requires that you do no harm... taking no action is therefore benevolent. So one can be ABLE to do as much as he wanted, not do it, and still be benevolent simply because there is no positive requirement for being benevolent.
flaymzofice
No the definition of benevolent is to do good. It is a directly positive action not an indirectly positive one. Therefore, for God to witness the destruction of people in wars and natural disasters, is contrary to His benevolence.

So much about God is contrary to so much about God. Bringing up the hypocrisy of God isn't particularly relevant.

It's human nature to contradict. Anything we know about God has been interpreted by man, and God therefore has... humanity... I don't think I'm phrasing this very well.

But yes... Humans are protectors, creators, destroy..ers... We do what we can to survive on earth. We've only recently started caring about what we are doing to the earth (the harm that we've been doing to earth has climaxed in the past century if anything), however, and we're (well... not all of us, but people in general, I suppose) now trying to preserve it somewhat.
flaymzofice
It's relevant in the metaphorical comparison I'm trying to draw between the contradictory nature of all that is human and that which is more than.
sporadic
Alright, then... Human nature is contradictory.
MFDOOM
Human beings are destroyers due to their ignorance.

The more intelligent humans are aware of their own well being as well as the well being of other creatures and their environment.

The ignorant cease to care.

When you don't care about virtually anything, you will destroy it. From inebriation, drug use, to littering and animal cruelty, human beings (universally) destroy everything they touch.
flaymzofice
Apathy is increasingly prevalent in the younger generations and those to come...if it is true that this is what is destroying everything, then we are only destroying ourselves.
