Okay.I really really want to take dance class (break dance class)!!

Ever since seeing this performance at my church when I was 7, I've always wanted to learn how to break dance. So, I asked my daddy.

He said, "NO!" It's those typical kind of asian parents. *sigh*

I really want to, I'd even pay for the classes all by myself.............

I'm 12 turning 13, and my parents think I'm too old to take on any kind of class. I've never gotten to take any after school stuff, or any sports.

I'm a good kid (hehehe)...................All I'm asking my parents is if I can take breakdance class, because it's my dream to become a professional dancer. They just won't seem to support me...like...they think "break dance" is bad or whatever.

I just don't get asian parents..ugh..

Okay..

My parents and me aren't very close...we are wayyy wayyy far from being close.

So..I'm here...

How can I persuade my parents to let me take dance classes??? And, am I too old to take on any kind of sport? AND, if I do persuade them..how would I look for some sort of dance class (I've never joined these kind of things..so I don't know how it works)

I'm a shy kind of person.....HELP?!?!

my parents are like that too. they think that one day im gonna die and that everything i do is bad. and i think itz got to do wif the asian parents. tell them to at least give u a try, let u do some break dancing classes for a while and prove it to them that it isnt that bad. i think ur parents are like scared of u being a gang or something. idk my parents are.

show them videos of people break dancing and point out the parts that you like best and tell them why you love it.

it's best to start dance classes when you're young...so if you don't convince them now it's going to be too late...i wanted to be a dancer but i'm 17 now. it's too late for me, just keep trying to convince them, that's your dream. chase after it.

take ballet or something; a dance that they can agree with.

does your school have those YMCA beacon programs...like they have afterschool programs
if you have something like that take classes in school

and i can't help you convincing your parents, usually no means no, i have asian parents too but they respect all of my decsions.

hey, it's not just asian parents, mine are like that too.

but about the problem, try negotiating with them. Work out a deal where if they let you do this, you'll do something for them (more chores, get straight a's... that kind of stuff)

instead of breakdancing why not try other kind of dance like hip hop. its kinda the same.
try working out with them, if not just tell them it's not really a big deal, and that your life long dream is to become a break dancer

God, my filipino parents are exactly the same...
Maybe find a person, or a friend, who takes dance classes.
Then go show your parents how not so bad these classes are.
Get some parents to tell them.
That would probably work?
And for looking for dance classes, go to the Yellow Pages!
xD

It isn't just straight A's that gets you into college. You have to be active in extra curricular activies, volunteer work, and etc.

My parents are the opposite of yours. They want me to join everything that's possible, but try the above about not only straight A's and stuff.

Well, I'm glad my Mom isn't like that. She encourages me to take all sorts of extra curriculars since I was little, from dance to drawing to badminton.

I'd say have a sit down talk with them, and don't put on a defensive tone when you're talking. I find that if I really want something and my Mom doesn't exactly approve of it, if I just sit down with her and explain to her all my reasons for wanting to join, and negotiate something, she'll let me go. Usually it's negotiated upon chores and grades. I suggest you have a talk with your parent and see how that goes.

I'm sure in school, they offer a break dance class for free. If they do show it to your parents they might let you if its free XD
