Full Version: Should Prisons Be Constructed Underground

latinprep12
That way they don't use up valuable real estate that could be used by law abiding people and it would be a lot tougher for the criminals to escape. wink.gif

whats your thought on the subject?
Levy2k6
very interesting topic.. i rather see Prison's not be built but destroyed...

anyways... underground sounds cool.. we should deport them 2 other countries and do cheap labor for us tho... lol.. im jk
latinprep12
haha send them to other countries
ikn0w ur m0m
Its illegal, I think they already tried to do this and the supreme court ruled in cruel and unusal punishiment becuae of heat or smoke or something lyke that being underground caues to build up.
Paradox of Life
^ Yeah. That's what I was thinking.

I think it's a terrible idea. If prisoners escape, whoop-dee-doo. Once they commit a crime or even before then, the criminal will be caught. At least in prisons above ground, you get some sunshine and fresh air.
technicolour
Let me guess Max, another topic where you were thinking out of boredom?

Anyways.

It's illegal.

But, why not. They're going to due in prison anyways. They kill eachother.

1. What would you build on top of the prisons...with all that land you've "saved"??

2. It'd be against human rights in some fun way or another

Building on top of prisons wouldnt be that bright of an idea cause when they do escape then what?

And some but trust me not all are innocent men in there might have been picked on by the law I fail to see that as fun but I agree with the human rights thing people are not animals but if caging someone to keep the world safe is the only resort then so be it.
ComradeRed
It would also be incredibly expensive.

It's better to let a man rob a bank and steal $1,000,000 than it is to spend $10,000,000 to keep him in jail because the money that is spent building the jails is taken from the people involuntarily through taxes anyway.

Michael Jackson would have loved that.

Of course if he got convicted.
Rikkiismyname
The only problem I can see with that is that I, for one, wouldn't want to live ontop of a jail still being used or going shopping over one or anything like that.

What could possibly go wrong? My elementary school adjacent to a maximum-security federal prison that has housed such famous faces as the mastermind of the first World Trade Center bombing, and nothing bad ever happened.

Really? I'm surprised. Well, I have to say, people in my city would freak if anything like that happened here. However, you have to consider that it's in much closer proximity, and on the same plot of land. However safe it may be, I believe most parents would not agree to having their child go to a school that is overtop a prison, because even the idea of an inmate escaping would probably freak them out.

not seeing real sunlight is bad for you

my high school had a big building and hardly any classrooms had windows, i could go days without seeing real sunlight during the winter, got to school at 7am, also had clubs/activities \,didnt get home till 6pm, i literally never saw direct sunlight and i was loosing it

Lmao. My friend said they saw Michael Jackson at a Build-A-Bear. I don't believe her. _unsure.gif

Anyway, prisons constructed underground is illegal and an overall ludicrous idea. Prisoners are bad, but they don't deserve to be treated like sewer rats. I'm sure if they're not already insane, they'd go absolutely insane without sunlight or fresh air. Everyone's on the same side, so is this a debate?

Land is not a problem. What good would it be to build something ON TOP of a prison? The dont pay tax or mortgage, I believe, the government does, and they'd still have tp pay if it were undergorund.

Escaping? Big deal.. if it were undergorund, there must be a way out, which is the same route prisoners would take. It ahs to do with the security of the jail/prison.

I fail to see the benefits.
xcaitlinx
no becuase i wouldn't want a jail to be like...under my house! you would hear all the convicts shouting and fighting all the time. pretty scary IMO. plus, there's a lwayhs a chance that they escape and bury a tunnel and try to rob you or something.

oh, yeah, and not ot be obvious but they could die under there. wink.gif there's not as much oxygen.....

yea I think there are some safety concerns with building prisons underground....
sadolakced acid
someone should tell that to the pentagon.

they've got a whole army base in a mountain.

i believe the people haven't died yet.
islandkiss
no way. I just think that the security measures should be changed since it's pretty easy for someone to plot an escape, only escaping with a few cuts and bruises. it's happened before.
Olive
Sounds like another injust idea to "dispose" of criminals for the better purposes of the world. Regardless of their crime, if they are given the right to live, that should incorporate the right to fresh air and sunlight.

Whats the next idea? Build a massive grave, like Hitler did, for those unworthy of life and recycling needs? Wow, sounds great, lets all pay more tax now and praise the government.
sadolakced acid
i don't have the right to fresh air and sunlight in my school.

so why shoudl they get it?
Olive
Your school is underground? and dont you have a lunch break? And your school is not equivalent to prison. You have the freedom to walk out any time or simply not go to that school.
sadolakced acid
your rights stop when you infringe on someone else's right.

(and i didn't equate my school with a prision. however, there are no windows, and we are not allowed to go outside during school hours)
