i think that's what it means too...

maybe you can "google" it

i hate it when people say those things to you and you can't understand them.

anyone want a cookie? LMAO!!!!!

it's like one of those idiom things?
annchovie
uhh..that makes no sense. i guess it means that you have to pick one way ot the other, you can have it both ways.

LOL, that's what i'm wondering. The saying doesn't make sense to me. I mean, what are you suppossed to do with the cake if you can't eat it?

That sounds about right... This and that Cookie thing are just ways of baffling the person you're talking to so they don't know that you're actually insulting them. And then when that person actually realizes the meaning, he/she gets pretty pissed. Oh well... that's life.
cleec
because if you are having your cake than its the same thing as eating it too...you can't do two things that you both want at the same time

i think
Mireh
I agree with Kim (lilangelgurlpnai)

Its probably just a saying that you cant't always have somthing you want.
mznina
i think its some form of expression.
fiji_kid
i think that she is trying to tell u that u hav to work for that cake.. ( help her make 1) lol..
pbear
The trick is the smile and pretend you understand what she's saying. wink.gif
instantmusic
my mom doenst tell me quotes. no way, thats just to wierd. your mom quoting around. no... i dont like the idea. i'll qurk out.
m@dcow
i'm not sure if the meaning has already been said... but i hear it's like... it has to do if you want to maintain a healthy weight or lose weight, you can't eat that cake... er... i usually hear you can have your cake and eat it too...
Fireshrieker
I think it means:

You can't have a cake after you eat it. Therefore, you can't have it forever AND eat it. At the same time.

EDIT- hey whoa... i never thought of that before now. Funny.
DisneyPrincessKate
I think it means that you cant always get whatever you want.

There's a song called You Can't have your Kate and Edith too. That amused me a lot because my name is Kate. I should listen to the song one day.
inn0centmarianne
I think it means the same thing, that you cant always get what you want, like if you want the cake thats in front of you, maybe you have to try and work hard for it.

Four years later, and I STILL don't know what idiot wouldn't eat his cake when he has it.

DoubleJ
I think that if you put your mind to it, you can have anything that you want.
yrrnotelekktric

What does that mean? _unsure.gif
arcanum
It's like calling someone sweet.
"When bees flit from flower to flower the nectar sticks to their legs. The phrase "bee's knees" means sweet and good, because the knees of the bee are where all the sweet, good stuff is collected. "-Urbandictionary. haha
yrrnotelekktric
^haha, wow. That totally makes sense tho. XD.gif
I won`t be surprised if i just blurt it out one day. rolleyes.gif
DoubleJ
I love it when people say that I can have what I want. It makes me want to get it even more. So far I am batting a thousand when it comes to the naysayers.
livwho
Oy, I hate this phrase.

When someone says "hey", I like to say "straw is cheaper". :D
fameONE
Damn, this thread is ancient.
DoubleJ
I hate it when somebody says, "Take it with a grain of salt." I am like, why f**king tell me if you don't even have all the facts.

Me neither.
LoveToMySilas
Wow. I just compared the dates. Well I guess its more along the lines of..."You can't do something and expect only good to come out of it"? I mean, thats how I interpret it.
Melissa
^ That, or when you want too many things at the same time and some things just don't work out.

And yeah, I know this thread is old.

But... mellow.gif ... it still needs love...
Just_Dream
THE CAKE IS A LIE.

I've heard of the "take what I said with a grain of salt" as in "take it lightly". =_=" I don't think I've heard it form a black person. I think I heard it from a white person... Maybe one of my teachers.. hmm...
jaeman
I'll just eat the cake later, secretly.
lkajsfklajskds
thats a strange phrase, and no, i havent heard it till now

since we're on the matter of cake:
i recently baked one =]
shoryuken
you mom mean..

you cant eat the cake den eat her 2..
S-Majere
Yeah, this phrase is an oldie.

I figure maybe if you didn't have the cake, then you could eat it. Does that mean you'd be stealing someone elses' cake?
Melissa
So I finally figured this one out after randomly deciding to look it up.

It's supposed to be thought of as "You can't eat your cake and have it too," meaning that after you eat your cake, you can't keep having it because it's already gone.

Which makes so much more sense. Why couldn't they just say so? lol.
