when you can't d/l the file itself it means that it's a streaming file... you can't download these usually because of high traffic to the server and they don't want people leeching all the bandwidth by complete downloads.

Many movie files are not downloaded to your computer, but rather, they are streamed; meaning they are sent little bits at a time, but generally fast enough so that you see a smooth video (that is, if you are on a speedy connection). The file that you download to your computer is not really a movie file, but rather, a pointer to a movie file stream; hence why it is often so small. Streamed movies are often sent as RealPlayer files and end in the .rm extension (and I believe .rpm sometimes, although this caused a conflict with Linux package files, and so most RealPlayer streams are saved with .rm extensions nowadays).
I'm not sure this is your problem, but that is what largosama was explaining. |

make sure the autoplay option is set to "1" and not "0".
make sure there are "" around the url. if you want some more help, post the video code. oh, and like mipadi and largosama said, it could be an rm or mov file. those won't work, unless you have the code for those. but they won't work with the code for the windows media player |

what movie player do you have? the windows media player? that can only play wmv, asf, asx, and swf movie files. also where are you getting your movie URL's?? if they are yahoo launch music videos, hotlinking them won't work 'cause they URL location of those videos change so frequently to prevent that. test the URL first in your browser. if it works then it should work in your media player on your xanga.
