:D

There will be so many new Renesmee/Jacob shippers now!

Posted by: Shalott Aug 2 2008, 09:10 PM

Ah...spoiler-ish.

Somehow, I highly doubt that. The premise is unappealing in the freakiness factor. Lol. Jacob shacking up with Bella's daughter? That'll be great when they start dating. "Remember that time I kissed your mom. Man, you're better than her."
Riighht. :D

Posted by: only-tuesdays Aug 2 2008, 10:21 PM

Oh. My. God. I just finished book two. Holy freaking crap.

Posted by: technicolour Aug 3 2008, 10:16 AM

OMGOMGOMGOMGGGGGG!

This book is, like, truly addicting. I'm 3/4ish done.

!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: venti-anemoi Aug 3 2008, 01:11 PM

I'm too poor to buy it, so I put it on hold at the library.

I'm #207. cry.gif

Posted by: superstitious Aug 3 2008, 01:13 PM

I'm already done. I finished it last night because this stupid cough won't let me sleep.

It was ok. I'll have to read it again, because my overall impression is a little lackluster. So I'll just wait to post anything meaty until I read the book again in a better state of mind.

Posted by: fredatemespleen Aug 3 2008, 01:17 PM

hmm...
i might actually read this one all the way through...

Posted by: mmhmichelle Aug 3 2008, 02:54 PM

I just bought it like 20 minutes ago.

I love Stephenie's taste in music :D

Here is my (cynical) take on the book....

Serious spoiler alert.

Once upon a time, there was a teenage girl who fell madly in love with a vampire. Said girl had many adventures and suffered several hardships with this vampire, and the first three books were pretty damn good, if not a little, ah, "fluffy." She wanted to be immortal to, and she also wanted to have sex with him as one of her last "human experiences." I'm cool with all of this, until Edward decides that he needs to save her "Virtue." Even that isn't so bad for me, but it sucks that this girl is so strongly opposed to it.

So here we are in Breaking Dawn, Woot!, and this girl is barely the same person. She's suddenly the happiest person in the world to be married, and everything is happiness and light... And then the honeymoon... all of this I'm baring with, okay with it all...

And then she's pregnant and refusing to kill the thing that's killing her.

Why did the book have to go with way? Why did I spend the last half of the last few days reading about a pregnant 18 year old who was suddenly obsessed with being a mother?

I'm not saying I blame Bella, really, or Edward or Jacob or ever really Rosalie, but I am saying that Meyer must be crazy. I regard her as an amazing author, but why a child?

I feel like this book was not what I wanted from it. The unexpected I'm fine with, and once Renesmee was out (omg what a HORRIBLE name, and it's origins are pretty stupid.)was out, she wasn't as dominating as I thought she'd be, but this was too much for me.

If you see it differently, I'm kind of hoping you'll share your insight. I'm a pretty cynical person (Ahaha, gee, ya think?) and really did like the first three books. Am I alone in my dislike for Breaking Dawn?

mod edit - merged with previously created Breaking Dawn thread. Please try to search (and look, this thread was on the first page) before creating a new thread. I put spoiler tags in for you as well. Nice review though. =) - Rebs

Actually it's pretty boring. Only some parts are interesting to me.

once Renesmee was out (omg what a HORRIBLE name, and it's origins are pretty stupid.)

That's like Albus Severus in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Honestly, why do authors name their characters like this?

I bought a copy of BD today and managed to get chocolate ice cream on page seven. Great.

Posted by: only-tuesdays Aug 5 2008, 01:53 PM

Yeah ok the names really really bugged me. I mean really, it is pretty cool she wanted to name the kid after people in her life, but the combinations she came up with sucked. Now poor Renesmee has to go through eternity being called "Nessie". I did laugh when Bella went after Jacob for that though.

Posted by: ----- Aug 5 2008, 04:28 PM

I thought the Jacob POV section was incredibly boring. Other than that, I really don't have an qualms. As usual, I hate Bella. She's really not a likable character if you think about it. She's not funny, she's not really unique, she's sort of... lackluster if you ask me.

I dislike Renesmee's name with a passion. Like WTF man? Renesmee Carlie Cullen? It's really bad; like seriously, seriously bad. But... I do sort of think the idea of Renesmee's sort of cool. Even though some people are creeped out with the whole Jacob/Bella then Jacob/Renesmee thing, I sort of see potential in that. Renesmee also sort of seems to be cooler than Bella.

I think the ending was anticlimactic. I mean, the entire Volturi clan or whatever comes over and they basically just... talk a lot. And that's it! No fight, no nothing.

But I guess I'm happy that Bella and Edward finally get to have sex and a happy ending.

I completely agree with the Jacob book. I actually like him, I'm Switzerland all the way but man, if that's his "voice", I'm sort of put to sleep by him. Bella, well, I'm back and forth on her. The more I read the series (I am avid re-reader and am actually working on my second go around with BD), the more disdain I feel for her.

Oh GOOD! I see a few people have this sentiment. The first time I read the name I actually that it was a joke. lol At least it wasn't "Bedward" or "Edwella". Although, she's narcissistic enough... lol

LOL I was like, seriously? One death? And not even a main character? Not that I wished for anyone to die but, really? I like idea of all the clans coming together - sort of like the Quidditch World Cup or something in the Twilight universe. Cinematically that has a lot of potential, should the movies stretch that far and let's face it, the world is commercial enough to do it should the first film prove a financial success (and I imagine it will, for at least for the first few weekends).

I don't know. I'm still ho hum about the whole thing.

Posted by: mmhmichelle Aug 5 2008, 06:28 PM

I think the book could've been better as a movie ermm.gif

Posted by: Stephire Aug 5 2008, 08:26 PM

So who though the whole Kate/Garrett relationship was adorable?
Other than that Breaking Dawn was a total train wreck......The end was nice; but getting there sucked. It seemed rushed....or like maybe Meyer searched fanfics randomly and pieced the story together. An incubus? WTF? Anyway.....I'm seriously going to make a Kate/Garret fansite, they owned.

so now that I'm over the shock...
this didn't feel like Bella and Edward's story at all. the book was good and all, but Meyer changed the tone completely. it was like another random book. if it weren't for the whole vampire/human/wolf, wedding, and so on...you could have picked it up and basically gotten it if you hadn't read the first three.
like I said, it was good, but it wasn't right. it's not like the other books.

Posted by: JokeInsideJoke Aug 7 2008, 09:39 PM

am i the only one who is happy with it the way it is???

Posted by: Zaxi Aug 7 2008, 10:33 PM

I was pretty happy with it until I got to the second part. I really didn't like that part AT ALL. It seemed unnecessary and pointless to have there. I guess it was better than reading about how sick Bella was, though.
And I mostly agree with RockItStudios..it didn't seem to be telling their story very much. I thought it did pretty well up to the end of part one, where it was just dumb.
I was very disappointed by the end. Just talking? No epic battle? ONE death? That was really upsetting. And I guess I would've been fine with that if it hadn't finished and then the book was pretty much over. I don't know why that bothered me, but it seemed REALLY rushed (after the Volturi left)
I did like most of part three though.

I'd say it's a good book though, and was worth buying.

Posted by: technicolour Aug 8 2008, 01:05 AM

^ Me too. Let's put a warning, everything after this point will not be spoiler marked. YE BE WARNED!

....

The end with just talking with the Volturi, yeah, BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. I WANTED ACTION DAMMIT!

Oh, and Edward just seemed a bit too indifferent towards Reneesme. Maybe because in the beginning he just wanted to kill her. *shrug*

It did just seem like another random book. I'm happy that its finally done and then we can just scrutinize all the movies when they come out. :D

Posted by: lully Aug 8 2008, 09:18 AM

I went ahead and edited a spoiler alert in the subject title.

People have been warned, so there shouldn't be a problem and the book's been out about a week now. Most people I know have already read the entire thing.

So from this point on, don't worry about spoiler tags.

thats kinda why, i was pretty disappointed in the book.

hmm, the book was okay, i liked the other three better tho.
the whole having a kid part really shocked me.
i so did not expect that x)

Posted by: elbaliava Aug 10 2008, 06:00 PM

I just finished it, finally.

I have to say... I really didn't want them to have a kid. I was really hoping that they would get rid of it... All the books have been soley based on Edward and Bella and now this.. Eh.

But Seriously the Book Two in Jacob's mind was really terrible. It seemed like Bella didn't even love Edward - there was ZERO Edward/Bella affection going on.

And then throughout the whole book it doesn't even seem like Edward has anything to do with his daughter... usually there is that whole daddy's little girl thing, but Meyer didn't portray anything of the like.

I liked the beginning and ending a lot.. but the whole pregnancy and birth stages were so hard to read, it got me really angry.

I have to say, I was disappointed with the book. Officially, I hate Edward.

Meh... I still don't like Robert Pattison as Edward.
And I'm not a huge fan of Kristen Stewart... I think she is too lanky for Bella. When I picture her blushing, I expect like... these pinchable cheeks. Stewart has like no meat to her face, or any of her for that matter.

i couldn't agree with you more.

well stephenie is working on the book through edward's eyes, is she just going to make that one book or go through all 4? because that would be such a bitch to write & to re-read the same story again. just through a different perspective.

i think the ending to breaking dawn was just perfect. i mean there doesn't need to be an extension to it with jacob & renesme.

they've imprinted so it's not like you can really write much afterward about that. it's obvious that they're going to get married or be lovers for the end of time. it's like a done deal. nothing else to talk about.
i think she ended the series very well.

I enjoyed it, and I'm not just saying that. After reading Breaking Dawn, I continued to re-read the entire series again. And quite frankly, I'm left wanting more. Breaking Dawn was excellent in my book. And I did love the Jacob section of the book, which I found odd.
After reading New Moon again I was still convinced on the pushiness of Jacob. He was just down right cruel to her, even continuing in Eclipse - ask me to kiss you or I'll go die... Huh?

Back on to Jacob's section in Breaking Dawn. I'd have to say my favorite part was when Jacob took his rightful place as an Alpha, even if it wasn't the way I thought he should. In Elipse, it said he wouldn't step up to it, not that Sam wouldn't step down. But when Jacob took on the tone of the Alpha, Sam was furious, telling him the pack would never follow him. But half of them ended up doing so, funny.

Overall, Breaking Dawn was still better than New Moon in my opinion, but I still want more from Bella's prospective.

i'm really sick of all these freaking happy endings. JK ROWLING and Stephenie Meyer had the potential to break hearts. But they DIDN'T. I mean, maybe they were just afraid of someone going all "Misery" on their asses, but. Hey. You're going to trade quality literature for some fictional character's happy ending, and the sleep of peace without fear of having your ankles hobbled at night? Wtf dudes?

Also, it makes sense that no one likes Bella the more they read the books. It fits. Because the whole time Bella is reading Wuthering Heights over and over again. Both of the main characters are horrible. Stands to reason that if Bella compares herself to the chick, she should be as dislikable.

i love men in flannel shirts & robert + flannel shirts = soo soooooooo gorgeous. oh man!

Leosageheart, your opinion is practically identical to mine. i was not a fan of new moon. the lack of edward's presence was just..ugh. and at first i really disliked jacob's point of view but then i realized that it was genius. it was necessary to have it from jacob's point of view instead of bella's because it brought to light the drama that was going on with the wolf pack. it wouldn't have caused the same tension if bella was narrating it, she was passed out and/or laying on the couch with a baby kicking her life out.

honestly, it was very witty and entertaining to read. loveee seth! he really makes you laugh.

& about the happy endings, yeah so whatt. we all cried enough in new moon. i think we've dealt with our heartache.

Why is that? If you don't mind me asking.

and i was wondering if vampires are afraid to bite random people. can they catch AIDS?

They can probably detect if a person is diseased using their supersenses. :P

I don't think vampires can become ill.

Well, it was written around 1900, so the language of the book isn't too complex, just different. Language meaning, yes it's in english, but the grammar and syntax is different.

If you have read an Austen novel, it's pretty similar.

ok so, am I the only one curious about the baby thing?
'cause blood stops flowing when you're a vampire, correct? the body stays the same and such. but how the hell does a vampire man make a normal human girl pregnant?

well he was still a virgin, so i guess... it was all still stored in him blink.gif

So I just finished BD yesterday (I've been busy). I agree that there should have been more fighting. All the talking made it a little anticlimactic. And why Renesmee? She could have been a lot more creative.

One of my favorite lines was when Jacob was like, "Real werewolves? Then what am I, imaginary?"

Yeah, I wanted to see all the vampires use their powers against the Volturi. =/

Renesmee is definitely not the best name that Meyer could have come up with. She should have chosen one with more meaning.

I still think of Jacob as a werewolf since that's how he's been described throughout the whole series. And come to think of it, why doesn't the La Push pack know their legend better? They should have called themselves shape-shifters from the start.

^Maybe they didn't realize there were "real" werewolves, and they were just shape-shifters.

New Page Starter. I swear to god, like, half of my posts are always at the beginning of a new page.

I remember in some X-Files episodes they had some indians who would "shape shift" into wolves. They never called them werewolves.

Oh. Gotcha. I`ll keep that in mind. thumbsup.gif

i don't think it was stephenie meyer lacking creativity, it's got to do with bella's personality. she's not very creative. i mean. come on it, it's bella. she loves esme & renee, two female figures in her life that mean the world to her. then the birth of a child who is the daughter of the man who means the world to her. her life revolves around these people. it's no wonder she named her kid that.

and about the vampire getting aids thing, i wondered about that too. but we all know vampires can't get sick. :)

I think it would be rather depressing, if you were a vampire without any real powers...

very true. you would be around "people" who can do amazing thing like read your mind, and what can you do?
nothing.

endlesslyshesaid:; i so agree with you!

the book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions when it came to bellas character. she loves a werewolf, but she REALLY loves a vampire. she is easy to get along with, then i hate her. but of all things almost DIEING for an unknown species inside of her made absolutely no sense to me. and Rosalie really upset me with her possesive behavior. this "twist" of her becoming pregnant was such a weird surprise.

but over all i enjoyed it. bellas powers are very cool thoguh it was unrealistic how quickly she gained such intense control over them. the part when she is human and sex obsessed was kind of...charming on her part. and edward's initial resistance made him seem even more of a gentleman. haha

i love that! "on bella, sex obssesion was charming" laugh.gif

when they were both naked in the water.... it was a funny, i guess. they were just standing there, NAKED, talking about the moon. loool.gif

i pretty much hated it.

hahhah ya i really didnt like bella at all. like she was always annoying me with her i love edward every five minutes... yes, i did cry tho when he first left her in new moon but after the first couple chapters it was just really really annoying. like she couldnt even stand for five seconds with out "falling apart" and she had to hold her torso together. it was just pethetic in my prespective, and then youve got jacob who is hopelessly in love with her and she is to stuck on edwards nuts to care. sad.. and pathetic, am i the only one who sees that?

This is supposed to be about Breaking Dawn, not any of the other books. Edward returns, Jacob gets over Bella when he imprints on Renesmee, and Bella and Edward live happily ever after by the last book.

i wish it was more detailed... it wasn't as intriguing how it was because stephenie went so detailed on like kisses for edward and bella so why not the intimate stuff?
