Maybe you inadvertently changed the contrast?

It's under settings. Try angling the iPod to see if you can see the screen at all. If you can, navigate to Settings > Contrast, then turn the contrast up. If you can't see anything at all, I'd try restoring the iPod. Plug it into your computer and run the iPod Software Updater app. Hit "Restore" instead of "Update". Everything on your iPod will be erased and will revert to factory settings; all music, photos, videos, and files will need to be copied back onto it from your computer.

I was trying to fix it one day, and i pressed the play button, and it played music. everything works fine, but i just cant see anything on the screen. just a white background. is there anyway i can fix this WITHOUT restoring my ipod? i dont want to restore it because i didnt save all my music files. i deleted them after i put them on my ipod because they were causing my computer to slow down. & i dont want to start over again because i have maybe over 300 songs. |

when did you buy your ipod? did you buy warranty with it? you can call apple and ask them. but if you didnt buy the warranty, they may not tell you how to do it. that happened to me.
me-my ipod froze. can you tell me how to unfreeze it? apple lady- did you buy the warranty? me-no apple lady- would you like to buy the warranty? me-no apple lady- well then i cant tell you how to unfreeze it. *hangs up* if you dont have warranty, you have to pay for it to be shipped and worked on. |

I'd back up your music files, then restore the iPod. Here are two articles I found that may help, too:
