Hey guys,
well i am 15 && i am in a bit of a situation
i currently wear glasses and i extremely want colored contacts
but the thing is my mother won't allow it
she said contacts are for people who can't really see well or can't see at all
if something is far away i can't see it especially in class, if i sit in the back
i won't see anything on the board, it it will be all blurry- so i usually put on my glasses

but i really want colored contacts- to enhance my look
my eye color is black

any ideas how i can convince my mother?
any replies will be very appreciated!

You might have a better chance of getting clear contacts than colored ones, in your situation. But your mom probably knows best, and contacts can be a big hassle.

Ha. As a mother, I can only advise you to come up with rational and practical reasonings/justifications for wearing contacts. Honestly, you're not going to be able to use that type of reasoning for colored contacts. Sorry, but unless my son was needing to go incognito, he wouldn't be able to convince me to buy him colored contacts.

Standard contacts, I can understand, especially if you are in extracurricular activities such as drama (stage work), sports, etc.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? I ask because since you want an aesthetic component to corrective lenses, you might be able to convince them to allow such an enhancement if you are hitting some type of milestone (turning 16, getting good grades, graduating... things like that). That way you can attempt to convince them using the "I've worked hard and this would really boost my confidence" maneuver.

Colored contacts are actually bad for your eyes. Just stick with glasses or regular contacts.

You should have corrected your mom right then and there. The glasses you wear serve the exact same purpose. What would be the difference if you wore contacts or glasses? Does your mom really have a problem with contacts or does she just have a problem with color contacts?

Seriously.

It sounds more or less she just doesn't want you to have colored contacts. Maybe you should try just persuading her to allow you to get contacts.

Or wait until your 16, get a job, and buy them yourself! That's what I did. shrug.gif

I don't see anything wrong with it. My mother would be more than happy to buy me colored contacts if I wanted them... so I have no idea how to go about persuading your mother :/

I think just first convince your mum to let you have contacts
if you REALLY want colour contacts after, tell her you'll pay for them
