i hate bored people. it really pisses me the f*ck off when people tell me they are bored. i don't care if someone is bored, be bored but don't tell me about it like you expect me to fix it. i get really pissed at people who can't entertain themselves and they always have to have someone entertaining them. if you're that bored why don't you just go do something? i don't understand it.

I used to think that whenever people vented, ranted, or otherwise complained to me, they were seeking advice and somehow expected me to help the situation. Sometimes I even got nervous at the prospect of having to give advice. But then I realized that, for the most part, when people complain, they don't really want advice, they just want to complain. People seem to have a need to voice their frustrations or problems, even if they don't expect (or don't want) anyone to actually help.

I see a proclamation of boredom the same way. When someone says "I'm bored", they probably aren't expecting you to entertain them. They probably just want to complain.

I guess this isn't always the case; I mean, from time to time, CBers post an "I'm bored, entertain me" thread.

What prompted this rant, anyway?

certain people constantly telling me they are bored, putting their status messages to bored, over and over having to make it known to everyone at all times that they are bored that's what brought it on today.

i suppose you're right maybe that they just want me to know they are bored all the time and don't expect me to do anything about it. it's one of those things though that people say and it's very hard to think up any other response than "ok".


this is on going for me though, like from my childhood basically. i used to have friends who were constantly bored if we weren't going somewhere or doing something 24/7 and it's always driven me up the wall.

No. I took an Intro to Psych course in my younger days, though (but it was more geared towards neurobiology).

Oh word. Psychology classes are often fun. But did you know that Psychology majors have the highest suicide rates of any profession. Dental is right behind it in 2nd place with suicide rates. Odd huh?

Anyways JC, I feel you bro. My assumption is always, if you're complaining about being bored, than you must be a boring person. Stop bitching and do something to alleviate your problem. Ya feel me?

Yeah, I liked it, I just never had any time to take anymore. Between comp sci and creative writing, my schedule was kinda...filled, unfortunately.

Did not know that pysch majors have such a high suicide rate. Any idea why?

I think it's rude when you're talking to someone, and then they say they're bored. Like talking to me is boring, and they're too good to talk to me. It happens all too often :(

well, you can help me figure out why people always say this to me maybe. when you tell people you're bored, what do you expect from them? are you telling them to be telling them or do you want them to entertain you.

Sometimes I say it to kind of just start the conversation. Thinking about it now, it is a bit of an insult; like the only reason why I'm talking to you is because I have nothing else better to do. I never mean it in that way, though.

I guess, subconsciously, I do say it in hopes that the other person will entertain me lol, but I don't know... I never really actually expect anything to happen. I say I'm bored just to state that I'm bored. There's no real reason behind it.

I usually respond by saying "Yeah me too lol" and then realizing that I'm actually not, so then I'll be like "well actually not really, I'm watching a Scrubs marathon" or something. But I'm rarely actually bored when I say I'm bored, because I can be entertained by just about anything.

Just a while ago I was lying on my bed for about 30 minutes. No music, no tv.. actually, the house was completely quiet. I just laid there staying and didn't even think it was weird that I wasn't DOING anything. I think it's kinda nice to sit around and not have anything to do, LOL.

And I agree, it does sort of bother me when people complain about how busy or stressful their lives are. Especially when it's because of school or work. Other things I can kind of understand, but when it's school/work people always try to one-up each other like they're all competing to be the one that gets that "oh wow.. holy crap, that's a lot of stuff" reaction.
